Nanna Strawberry thoroughly enjpyed her visit to
Holly Lodge Summer School yesterday, Thursday 25th
for readings and activities from Nanna Strawberry Books.
There was good interaction from the pupils who will be
attending Holly Lodge Girls College in September and had
therefore been invited to Summer School to meet each other
One lively girl described her dance experiences in New Brighton
and the opportunity on one occasion to have a look inside
its lighthouse on the shore. She described climbing steps,
upward and round and round to the top of the lighthouse.
It was good to learn that this well known lighthouse in New
Brighton is open to the public from time to time.
At the conclusion of Nanna Strawberry's readings and
questions, she was invited to present each participant with
a pre-prepared inscribed copy of her book, No.6 in series,
Nanna Strawberry Remembers The Young Queen...and schooldays.
Her own schooldays were first at Winstone Road Primary School
(now Dovecot Primary School, on a different site) then at
Grant Road Secondary Modern (now site of Dovecot P S)
then to Holly Lodge High School for Girls (now called
Holly Lodge Girls College and in newly built premises in
former grounds of Uplands at Holly Lodge High School).
She told her young audience that she clearly recalled her
own first day at Holly Lodge, where new pupils were
gathered outside Sandheyes, and her mother led her to a
group of girls and said "This is Audrey, what are your names?"
Embarrassing as that was, she was now glad to report that,
amazingly, three of those girls have remained her life long friends
despite being dispersed in their future lives and following
different careers. She hoped that many of the girls present
were now beginning lifelong friendships which may one day
even be passed on to their own children befriending each other.
There is something rather special in having friends who remember
their shared schooldays in youth, and growing maturity.
My thanks to Mrs Debbie Rhodes for liaising with me and
her assistance during my visit.
Love and best wishes to everyone at Holly Lodge,
from
Audrey Wilson MBE (ex Holly Lodge pupil Audrey Greenbank 1950s)

DOVECOT PRIMARY SCHOOL FAIR
Congratulations to all concerned on organising such an enjoyable Fair
in school grounds on a warm sunny day, Also for allocating a table for
the display and sale of Nanna Strawberry Stories. Several children were
very pleased to be able to buy one of these story books.
It was very heartwarming to experience the warm and excited reception by
many pupils who had enjoyed Nanna Strawberry's recent visit to their school.
The name "Nanna Strawberry" rang out from all directions, such was the
excitement when I was seen behind my table !
My thanks to everyone who bought books or stopped for a chat about them.
I was very pleased to make a donation to their school from book sales.
I also thank Dovecot School for puchasing a full set of Nanna Strawberry
books for school use and interest and to Mrs S Buckle for her helpful liaison
with me. Happy summer holidays everyone !

GREENBANK SCHOOL FAIR
Nanna Strawberry had a very enjoyable time at the Greenbank School's Fair where
she was allocated a table to display and sell her Nanna Strawberry Stories.
It was a treat to be so welcomed, especially by pupils who were quite excited to see
Nanna Strawberry there and came to greet her, or to call her across the hall, with a
wave and big smile. Some of the children bought a second book, having enjoyed the
one they bought last week, and others were glad to have the opportunity to buy their
first one. It was also very encouraging to hear from some parents how much their child
had enjoyed her story telling last week and had told them all about it after school.
Sincere thanks to all staff, parents and children for their welcome and support and
CONGRATULATIONS on achieving such a clearly successful Fair and great raffle!
It was a pleasure to be there.
"Happy Birthday" too, to Mrs Jean Weir !

ST MARY'S CHURCH, STRAWBERRY FAYRE
It was great to have a stall at this enjoyable event, Saturday 29th June and I thank everyone who
bought a Nanna Strawberry book. The sun shone on volunteers and customers with occasional
clouds to help us cool down ! Teas great! I was pleased to have 15 customers, three of whom
bought sets of 3 books at their discount price, so £15 donated to Fair proceeds. I have since
received a lovely photo with 'customer' Eleanor, taken by her father at my Nanna Strawberry stall.
Love and best wishes to all concerned,

HAPPY VISIT TO GREENBANK PRIMARY SCHOOL
My sincere thanks to staff and pupils at the fantastic Greenbank Primary School for their friendly
hospitality during my visit Thursday 27 June, for book readings to Assembly and year groups.
The children clearly enjoyed the Nanna Strawberry stories and asked very applicable questions.
My thanks to Mrs Jean Weir for escorting me throughout the day, and to everyone concerned
for the lovely strawberry cream sponge cake given to me as a "Thank You".
Thirty children had pre-paid for a book, which they later chose from selection in school hall.
WOW! Before they had seen them or heard them read ! £30 was donated to school funds.
I am now looking forward to the Greenbank School Fair on Friday 5th June, where I have been
given a table in order to display and sell my Nanna Strawberry books, in case anyone would like
one after hearing the stories read.
